What are the Facts for our Candidates

The Government aims to see 1 million more disabled people in work by 2027

The Disability Employment Gap has not moved in the past 20 years despite the law and legal acts aimed to protect disabled people.

In 2001 the government funded Workstep initiative gave £4,800 per person to businesses to help support disabled people. There were 400 contractors

In 2010 this was reduced to 26 prime providers which had an negative impact on how many people could access the program.

In 2015 this was due to end but was extended to March 2019.

As yet there is no replacement funding in place.

Access to Work is a government funding stream that can provide funding for employees once they are in employment at 16hrs and over (this can apply to self employed).

ER believe this funding should be able to be accessed by our candidates while they are on their Pathway to Employment. We have asked but have been told NO.

At ER we are passionate about developing our candidates project by project, layer by layer through their continuous professional development to prove their worth into paid employment.

Our candidates have faced far more adversity than other people this gives them a huge energy and determination to succeed if they could only have a chance. ER give our candidates belief in their unique advantages.

Here are some more facts ...

  • There  are more than 11 million disabled people in the UK.
  • One in six of us will be affected by disability at some point in our lives.      For many of us, it will be the hardest thing we ever have to face.
  • Eight  out of 10 people with a disability weren’t born with it.
  • The vast majority become disabled through an injury, accident, heart attack, stroke or conditions like MS and motor neurone disease.
  • Disabled people are far less likely to be employed than non-disabled people. Fewer than 50% of working-age disabled people are in work, compared to 75% of  non-disabled people.
  • Disabled  people’s day to day living costs are 25% higher than those of non-disabled  people.
  • Disabled  people are around three times as likely not to hold any qualifications compared to non-disabled people.
  • A  third of disabled people have never used the internet, compared to just 8%  of non-disabled people — a ‘digital divide’ of 25%.
  • Disabled people are significantly more likely to be victims of crime than non-disabled people.
  • One in three households with a disabled person still live in ‘non-decent  accommodation’.
