The Disability Employment Gap has not moved in the past 20 years despite the law and legal acts aimed to protect disabled people.
Negative words around disability do not represent our candidates, they are not handicapped, they do not have a disorder, they are not ill.
The definition of a disability is a physical or mental condition that limits a person's movements, senses or activities – we believe the word disability should no longer be used in any conversation or government documents.
The minister for disabilities announced they are committed to getting 1 million disabled people into work within the next 10 years. We believe this is a VERY WEAK target set by a department that has had 7 ministers since 2010
It is disabled people themselves that are being treated as the problem.
